Keeping People Safe During Civil Unrest and Wildfires
As we enter the second half of 2024, geo-political tensions and a very active wildfire season are increasing demand for Genasys Protective Communications solutions.
The April campus protests and ongoing civil unrest portend what's to come as citizens in more than 50 countries go to the polls this year.
Many U.S., Canada and European Union emergency management agencies, first responders and residents are already dealing with wildfires during early summer heat waves and are bracing for larger conflagrations during peak fire season.
Growth in our software business continues as we landed Genasys Protect contracts from public safety agencies in 13 states between April 1 and June 30. With San Diego County's May launch, more than 25 million California residents are now covered by Genasys EVAC. EVAC is currently the primary system for quickly disseminating critical public safety information to more than 70% of California.
Domestic and international LRAD orders are rebounding with recent defense orders from the U.S. Navy, Middle East and Europe. The Puerto Rico dams project received its final oversight approval in late June and is on track to get underway this summer. The US Army program of record to augment Common Remotely Operated Weapon Stations (CROWS) is active in the early stages of procurement planning. Finally, a number of law enforcement and other LRAD and ACOUSTICS business opportunities are progressing.
In June, we welcomed Bill Dodd, retiring California State Senator, and Craig Fugate, former Administrator of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) to the Board of Directors. Their impact is expected to be material as we position Genasys for significant revenue growth next fiscal year and beyond.
Stay safe,
Richard Danforth

“As county emergency manager, I’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of mass notification systems in crisis response. Genasys ALERT provides us with the ability to swiftly disseminate critical information to our community, saving lives, minimizing chaos, and ensuring timely and effective response to emergencies and disasters. I encourage everyone to sign up for this great resource.”
Jason Breining, Director of Emergency Management, Jackson County, MI
"We find Genasys ALERT to be very beneficial for proactive communications to our customers. Golden State Water has been able to take a more timely approach to emergency and non-emergency messaging, while lowering the cost of deploying a significantly increased number of multi-channel customer notices. The ability to immediately deploy communications to mitigate the impact of unplanned events has also been a great benefit to our company and customers."
Regina Cullado, Customer Service Manager, Golden State Water
"San Diego regional public safety agencies are coming together to announce that all emergency alerting and mapping will now be powered by Genasys EVAC. This technology is leaps and bounds ahead of our old system and will help emergency managers and dispatchers send out more precise, location-based alerts during an evacuation to help keep San Diegans safe and informed during an emergency.”
Jeff Toney, Director, San Diego County Office of Emergency Services
“As requested by the university, we are on campus to assist in dispersing those trespassing. What you are hearing is our LRAD announcing very clearly that CCNY has ordered these individuals off the campus.”
Kaz Daughtry, NYPD Deputy Commissioner, Operations
LRAD USED DURING CAMPUS PROTESTS & CIVIL UNREST
In April 2024, large-scale pro-Palestinian protests erupted on US college campuses in response to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Protestors had a range of goals and objectives, leading to large encampments and thousands of arrests. Law enforcement used LRAD 100X and Genasys CONNECT to communicate and manage crowds with clear voice commands and information. Genasys communication systems proved effective in de-escalating tensions and preventing protests from turning into violent riots.
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA LAUNCHES GENASYS EVAC
With peak fire conditions looming ahead, San Diego County regional public safety agencies launched Genasys EVAC to enhance safety for residents and visitors during wildfires and other emergencies. As part of its evaluation and procurement process, San Diego County performed extensive testing and training, resulting in more than an 80% improvement in response and communication of simulated emergency notifications

Genasys received new defense orders from the Middle East and Europe as delayed international LRAD orders are starting to come in. The orders included a follow-on to a previously announced foreign military contract award to deploy LRAD systems on shore installations and naval ships, and an order from Damen Naval to outfit four new German Navy frigates with multiple LRAD 950NXT systems, with an option to outfit two additional frigates.
